Madison Chalfant (b. 1998) graduated from Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Art and Planning in May of 2020 with a focus in sculpture, feminist studies, and sustainability. Chalfant employs an interdisciplinary, research-guided practice that examines how bodies, human psyches, and behaviors are conditioned by physical environments and the materials that reside within them. Chalfant’s work frequently draws upon personal experiences with and broader histories of gendered rituals, the motility of fashion, women within healthcare systems, and existentialism. Through the interaction of the chosen materials, she activates the female body through sculptural forms that encourage touch and use.
